Agriculture continues to anchor Kano’s economy and rural livelihoods. The administration of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has revitalised this sector through wide-ranging interventions aimed at boosting productivity, ensuring food security, and empowering farmers. Thousands of smallholder farmers have benefited from subsidised fertilisers, improved seedlings, and mechanised equipment. The Government has also expanded irrigation schemes to optimise all-year-round farming, particularly in riverine communities. Programmes on livestock development, including veterinary outreach and grazing land management, are improving animal health and production. In partnership with private investors, the State is also promoting value-chain development to add economic value to local produce. These measures collectively strengthen Kano’s position as an agricultural powerhouse, creating jobs and ensuring sustainable food systems across the State.
